Dating pets lovers -  and advice

1. Don't bring your pet(s) on your first date - I know this might sound like a weird advice since this is a dating guide for pet lovers. However, it is a weird but sound advice. As much as you love your pets you must remember that you date to meet new people and not new pets. You also date so that others might get to know you. Your pet is not you. You have much to offer that is not related to your pet. As pet lovers you can talk about your pets to establish common ground but it is important to meet each other alone on your first date so that the focus will be on the two of you. By not bringing your pets you can also avoid the hassle of having to restrain two pets that might end up not liking each other. First dates are tense enough without having to deal with complicating factors.

2. Don't expect you pet(s) to like your date or his/her pet(s) - When your date and pet(s) finally meet you would of course like them to hit it off. Much as you'd like that to happen don't be too expectant or you just might end up disappointed. It's just like hoping your best friend will like your date. You never really know how your best friend or your pet for that matter will react. Don't be overly bothered though if your pet doesn't warm up immediately. Your pet just might need time to get used to your date.

3. Be sensitive towards your date's pet(s) - When you do meet your date's pet it is your chance to impress your date. Make sure you do everything in your power to impress your date's pet and so impress your date. Don't fake it though if you really find yourself repulsed by your date's pet(s), which is highly unlikely since you won't be here if you're not a pet lover, then don't go around praising and fussing over the animal, your sincerity or lack of it will show. Make sure you always respect the animal's boundaries and show interest but not too much if it seems ill at ease. Just treat your date's pet the way you would like him/her to treat yours and everything should be fine. Make sure you don't make major booboos if your date's pet is an animal you're not used to handling by asking your date for advice on how to handle his/her pet. This would show that not only are you interested but also care for the pet's welfare.
